Cleveland, OH to Atlantic City, NJ

This roadtrip starts you off in Cleveland, then heads you out to the East coast. Multiple stops along the way provide unique fun for the whole family! Total drive time: 8 hours 17 minutes

Cleveland

In Cleveland, fun places to visit include the Cleveland Zoo, the Natural History Museum (make sure to see Balto, the famous sled dog), and Squire's Castle. The zoo is quite large at over 180 acres, with a tram leading to different sections. The rain forest exhibit, which is separate from the main zoo area, was also really cool and worth a visit!

Pittsburgh

On the way to Hershey, you can stop in Pittsburgh for a couple hours to ride the Duquesne Incline where you can get some nice views of the city.

Hershey

In Hershey, the obvious attraction Hersheypark! The park has some amazing roller coasters, an extensive water park, and even a zoo. People often spend two days at the park. We stuck to the smaller rides and the zoo, since my daughter was too young for most of the attractions, but it was still a lot of fun and really cool seeing a life-sized Reese Peanut Butter cups walking around greeting people.

Don't miss Hershey's Chocolate World! This attraction is suited for people of all ages. We spent pretty much the whole day there, doing the various activities and shopping. Highlights were the Hershey's Chocolate Tour (a Disneyland-like ride that shows the process of making chocolate) and the Hershey Bar making experience.

Philadelphia

After Hershey, drive to Philadelphia. Visiting the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall is a must. The One Liberty Observation Deck is great to see the everything (and I'd recommend doing this first to get a good overview of the city).

Other notable stops include the LOVE sign, the Reading Terminal Market for yummy treats, and Spruce Street Harbor for some fun nightlife (and more treats!).

No trip to Philadelphia is complete without a good Philly Cheesesteak! I admit, I am no expert on Philly Cheesesteaks, but I do know there are strong opinions about the best place to get one. I will divulge the fact that I've only tried Jim's, and I very much enjoyed their traditional style with the cheese sauce. There are many more options, and I'm sure you'll find a place that suits your tastes.

Finally, make sure to grab some water ice (pronounced "wooter ice") during your stay. If you're not familiar with water ice, it's more often refered to as Italian ice. You'll often find the water ice layered with custard or soft serve ice cream. Rita's is a national chain that might be in your neighborhood, but you'll be able to a few more options local to Philly.

New Jersey Coast

Philadelphia is about an hour away from the coast, which makes for a perfect day trip to the beach! There are many fun places to visit. We started in Ocean City, then headed up to Atlantic City.

Along the way, you can stop by Lucy the Elephant. It was built in 1881 by James V. Lafferty. Nowadays, you can rent it out as an AirBnb.

Atlantic City is one of the most surreal places I've ever visited. We visited on one of the warmed days of the year. Ocean Beach had been packed, but Atlantic City was almost a ghost town. There was what seemed to be a mist in the air, creating a mysterious atmosphere. Many of the buildings were empty, suggesting the area might be on its last legs.
